The term relationship is one common and often misplaced word especially by the youths in this 21st century. We shall x-ray the meaning, few benefits and often misplaced concept about the word relationship.
From the dictionary, the relationship between two people or groups is the way in which they feel and behave towards each other. It is also close friendship between two people, especially one involving romantic or sexual feelings. The relationship between two things is the way in which they are connected.
Now looking at the three definitions there is something common which is a link, so in a simple term we can say relationship is a link. This is very important in our day to day living on this planet earth if we must exist as no man is an island. However, the second definition gives a clear example in the second part with a stress on the married ones but then our unmarried youths have taken claim to this part and neglecting the first and third.
Why then do our youths need relationship? Like we earlier said no man is an island thus a link is needed in our life long process. Every relationship gives us a great lesson to learn, relationships offer us the opportunity to get what we cannot easily get. A man who has a good relationship with people will easily get a job and you hear a term like "based on recommendation" attached.
Relationship acts as a mediator to our existence as well as supplement to life. Knowing that we don’t have all that we need so it's only relationship that can afford us such opportunity to get them easily.
Now let us go back to our focus which is the youths. Many times you hear a young person say "I am in a relationship" but if you get closer you notice it's not a relationship but a sexual affair. Relationship among our youths should offer them the opportunity of knowing each other and helping each other grow physically, spiritually, emotionally, financially and otherwise. Why on earth will you say "I am in a relationship with him" and you don't even know that he is a criminal or that he is quick to anger. You have been in a relationship with her and you can't help her academically even when you know you can. Then such is never a relationship. This is common in our schools and even the church where you see youths having conflicts called break up and will see each other as enemies after claiming to have been in a relationship. This piece is meant to change our mindset towards having a better relationship and growing better as the day pass by. No true relationship leave you the way you met them it's either you get better if it was a good relationship or you get worse if it is a bad relationship. Remember, show me your friend and I will tell you who you are. That's purely relationship analysis and we must be careful with the kind of relationship we build. Relationship is not sex and sex is not relationship.
If we understand this right concept that relationship is simply a link and it's meant to help us then our world will be a better place and the term break up, divorce will soon vanish. Finally, let this always be in your mind: No man is an island and so always do what is good because it is good, expect no reward for doing your duties.
