THE WONDERS OF EASTER
Easter gives a detail description of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. To some persons it ought to be a joyous moment while to some a sober reflection but then both ways are widely accepted as we celebrate the benefits gotten from the death and resurrection of reflection why he did all he did on the cross and amend our ways. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ was the primary purpose of his coming to earth and infact the announcement during his birth was fulfilled during a time like this called Easter. Just as there are gains during his birth, so also there are gains of his death but then some appear to be a wonder as to which it is not understood by many. There are many wonders of Easter but let us look at just 6 of them.
1. Assurance of eternal life: Jesus said to the thief on the cross with him “Today, you will be with me in paradise”. All through his stay on earth it has been miracles and deliverance but then the assurance of eternal life was still shaking in the hearts of many. It was Easter that validated that assurance of eternal life to man and as he rose it was settled.
2. Faith: “Faith is a substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen” Heb. 12:1. In the old testament we had very few records of people with faith as compared to those after Easter. Our faith in Christ would have been vain and infact imagine what would have happened to the disciples if he never came back to life. Peter denied him because he felt if Jesus was not back to life he will be the next to die. 1 Corinthians 15:17-“And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your SINS”. Easter validated our believe and faith system in Jesus Christ, that is why we can say “If Jesus is risen I’ll rise.”
3. Direct Access to God: It was during Easter that the temple curtain was divided into two, hence giving man access to God directly at any location and anytime which was not so before the Easter. An unusual breaking of protocols was done so as to bring back the direct access to God which was lost in the garden of Eden.
4. Confidence to preach: 1 Corinthians 15:14 - And if Christ has not been raised from death, then we have nothing to preach and you have nothing to believe (GNT). Someone will ask “Then how about the preaching before his death and resurrection?” Notice something here, it was mainly Jesus that was doing the talking/preaching while the disciples follow but after his death and resurrection there was an unusual confidence and message to preach.
5. Power over Sin and Demons: Before now, sin ruled over man but after the death and resurrection of Christ all powers and authority was given to man. The reason why it appears as if sin is still dominating man is because men have refused to acknowledge the fact that they have power over everything.
6. Divine Security: During the resurrection the stone was rolled away and the angel sat on the stone showing divine security because if the angel never sat on the stone men would have rolled the stone back to cover the tomb but the positioning of the angel on the stone shows divine security in all areas as well as security of our place in Christ Jesus.
Finally, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is not supposed to be celebrated once in a year but a daily celebration by all as we look back at the gains derived from this deed on the cross. However, it should not be taken for granted but should be respected by all and treasured. While going about our daily affairs let us never forget eternity for that was why Christ died to book a place for us in eternity.
