I have heard many say “Politics is a dirty game” and on the other hand “A Christian is a clean being”. Now from the two concepts is there any relationship? The big answer is No, but then this theory is wrong and unless it is corrected we cannot understand it well. What then is the true meaning of Politics? It comes from the Greek word Politika meaning affairs of the cities. It is also the process of making decisions that apply to members of a group. It is the achieving and exercising positions of governance - organized control over a human community, particularly a state. Now from that definition will you still say “Politics is a dirty game?” In our country the people involved have made it look dirty meanwhile in the actual sense it’s not. Now let us take a look at some biblical characters who were into politics or say politicians.
• Joseph – Genesis 41:37-49.
• Daniel – Daniel 2:46-49
• Solomon, Saul, etc.
Now to show you that it’s the desire of God to have Christians in there let’s look at Proverbs 29:2-When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. This means there is a need for the righteous (Christians) to be in authority instead of the non-Christians. Recall when Joseph was in authority what happened and after he died what also happened? That’s a clear explanation of Prov. 29:2. It is not enough for you to sit and watch the activities, also take part in the activities. This is the current trend of our 21st century Christians were they assume God will do everything while they sleep. Noooo, it’s not done that way. Joseph the father of Jesus took part in the census of his country Luke 2:1-5 and then I wonder why some Christians will not get their PVC, vote even if you are not to be voted for, contribute to the economy of the state in the little way just like Joseph was able to store up food for his country.
This is not to mean that all Christians will or should go into politics but then take part in whatever is happening in the country. You see some don’t even take part in the environmental sanitation and other simpler tasks and you expect the non-Christians not to do what they are doing? However, we still owe them some responsibilities as those they rule – Romans 13:1-3, 1 Timothy 2:1-3 FIRST OF all, then, I admonish and urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men. For kings and all who are in positions of authority or high responsibility, that [outwardly] we may pass a quiet and undisturbed life [and inwardly] a peaceable one in all godliness and reverence and seriousness in every way. For such [praying] is good and right, and [it is] pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior. If we carry out our responsibilities well, take up the political positions if we have the grace then I see a better society. Remember, not all have such grace but as many as have such grace go and make God proud, go and represent the mind of God, let’s be there instead of allowing the unbelievers to be there, let’s make people understand that politics is not a dirty game. Remember, after the creation of man God gave His children dominion over the earth and so it’s time we claim our position and make our world a better place.
