CHRISTIANS AND THE SOCIAL MEDIA

The social media is another simple or easy form of communication in the 21st century and it comes in different forms ranging from Facebook, twitter, WhatsApp, 2go, etc. These communication channels to some, have been very useful and thus the need to expand its reach and more features added while to some “Christians” it is a sin pointing that our role model Jesus Christ urged us to be like him and using the social media is a sin. Well, condemning the social media totally is wrong because its purpose was for the good of humanity and it depends on what you do with it that makes it wrong (sinful).
As Christians the social media is a tool for evangelism, encouragement and adding values to the society. Yes, some of our youths have violated the purpose of these means of communication but then does it make it evil? No…

What are your communications via the social media? What are your posts/updates? What are the groups you create and join? If these and many more are answered, then on a scale of 1-10 what are the values or imparts they are adding to your life or the lives of others? It’s time for us to rise and take the bull by the horn, let’s use the social media as a tool to changing our world instead of condemning and destroying our world.

Let’s have youths all over filling the airways with the gospel, inspiring messages, procuring solutions to the economy of nations and the likes. If this is done, then the rate of abuse allocated to the social media will drop and our society will reap the fruit thereof from the social media. We need more Christians on social media to correct the ills created by non-Christians and also to pass the gospel to them. However, while doing these let’s not forget that the devil is constantly at work and care must be taken while on air to avoid falling a prey to the devil as they are also there to deceive many.

Addiction to the social media and forgetting that there are other things to be done is what we must try to avoid. The social media over the last decade have housed more humans than the houses we live in and so this is a good platform for Christians. Why struggle the microphone? Why compete with the other church on the street for members? Why???? Visit the social media for there is a larger congregation to conquer. God help us as we move beyond the analogue to the digital world to create more imparts before we depart the earth.
