THE POWER OF FOOD

Food in a very simple term is considered as any substance (solid or liquid) which when eaten provides energy and sustain life. Yes, we will all agree that one of the basic need of man which is ranking top is food, meaning that food is the most important to the body. Food is the most consumed commodity in the world and you will agree with me that food is indeed good for human and infact a friend to man and can be harmful if not followed with knowledge.
But then let us closely look at some case study of food and what it has caused right from the creation of man.

1•Adam and Eve were deceived by the devil using food (fruit) as a tool to carry out the act (Genesis 3:6). This shows there is more to just the food and care must be taken when eating anything. 2•In the case of Esau and Jacob, you can also see the elder brother (Esau) selling his birthright just for a pot of yam porridge (Genesis 25:29-34) and the father on the other hand had no blessing left for Esau because he ate what he wanted and had already emptied all the blessings on Jacob. 3•The lepers took a very though decision when entering the city just to get food and God had to make those in the city give way for them (2 Kings 7:3-8). 4•Jesus was always feeding the multitude at some point during his open crusade when he observed that they were hungry (Mark 6:39-44; 8:1-10) and the scripture records that the multitude followed Jesus not because of the gospel or the miracle but because of food (John 6:26-Jesus answered them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, you have been searching for Me, not because you saw the miracles and signs but because you were fed with the loaves and were filled and satisfied.) What a power embedded in food.

Now let us turn over to another side of the story where we see two people who understood the power of food and acted wisely - Daniel was one of them. He refused to defile himself with the portion of the king’s meal that was sacrificed to idols (Daniel 1:8-15) and you still remember how healthy he was even with his meal that appeared not to be very nutritious to man. Jesus was tempted by the devil to turn stone to bread (food) which was a very simple task for him to carry out but Jesus replied the devil, man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceed out of the mouth of God (word of God) – (Luke 4:4, Deuteronomy 8:3) meaning the top priority of man should not be food but the word of God. It is the food of the spirit and if this is understood eating every other food becomes easy for it will be eaten with understanding and to the glory of God. To this end, I urge us to eat responsibly not allowing food to make us sin or even sell our birthright but that we overcome such with the food of the spirit (word of God). God bless you.
